Ray Watkins, who lives in Western Australia was going through his collection of memorabilia and came across the sketch that he produced as an entry in the Leichhardt State School ‘School Badge Competition’ in 1959 and discovered a lost piece of our school’s history.
He also had the original letter from the School Committee advising him that his thumbnail sketch had been selected as the template for the badge we still use today. When he visited the school’s website, he was surprised that his design from 59 years ago is still in use today. You can imagine how excited he was to see his childhood connection still exists with our school. If you look closely, his design had a cricket bat but is now a racquet. We wonder how and when that changed?
